Do you need a specific digital tool for your research? Would you like someone to review your self-written code? Do you have questions about what would be the best possible IT solutions to your research problem? Or would you like advice on the technical component of your funding proposal? The Research Software Lab (RSLab) of the Centre for Digital Humanities can help.

Tailor-made tools

The dedicated RSLab team is comprised of ten specialized scientific developers who can offer technical support by building tools for targeted research and education. These include a wide range of applications, such as databases, visualizations and text mining tools. All developers have backgrounds in e.g. linguistics, history, musicology, or Artificial Intelligence. The RSLab predominantly works for researchers and teachers in the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University, but researchers or external organizations with a clear humanities link – cultural institutions, universities, museums, etc. – are also welcome to submit a project idea.

Researchers and teachers of the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University can apply for free small-scale development projects. For example, the RSLab can build a small tool to support your current research, set up a website-PHP tool to disclose results of a research database, a plugin for an existing tool, or a standalone visualization or demo for a research proposal. The RSLab has built up an extensive portfolio in recent years. Are you interested in collaborating with the RSLab? Please send an email to digitalhumanities@uu.nl to set up an appointment.

Consultation

The RSLab offers free no-obligation consultations during the Digital Humanities Walk-in Hours on Thursdays from 14:00 to 15:00 pm for researchers from all disciplines in the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University. Students or other interested parties with a clear humanities link are also welcome to consult with us.

The RSLab can:

  1. provide advice on suitable technical solutions to your research problem;
  2. be a sparring partner to more experienced DH researchers. We can, for example, think along about complex technical problems or review your code;
  3. help with the digital component of your funding proposal. The Centre for Digital Humanities also regularly participates in applications as a partner. We work closely together with the Research Support Office of the Humanities Faculty.

Are you not able to visit the DH Walk-in Hours or do you have another question? Please send an email to digitalhumanities@uu.nl.
